Fish Story #2 - A Pike
Prank
Twenty or so years ago, I
was ice fishing with friend Jerome on Shawano Lake, Wisconsin
and the action was slow. We knew that some other people had
caught fish in this spot: There were pike remains from fish
that had been cleaned on the spot. I decided to take a nap in
the car (and warm up a bit). Jerome yells "tip up" and sure
enough a flag is up! I run out, grab the tipup and quickly
provide slack line to the fish. Odd. The fish is taking line
but very very slowly. After about 2 or 3 ft of line goes out,
the line stops. I put a little pressure on the line - there's
something on! I give a tug and there doesn't seem to be
anything on. I pull in the line but as I get close to pulling
all line in I spot a pike on my line. THIS FISH HAS BEEN
PLAYING POSSUM! I quickly jerk the line to set the hook and
the flesh-less pike head pops out of the hole. I don't know if
I have ever laughed so hard on a fishing trip!
